I wanted to take this opportunity to formally introduce myself to the CSforALL Community. My name is Joshua Elder and I have recently joined the CSforALL team as a senior project manager. I have been with the team for just over two weeks and it has been truly an amazing experience hearing about all of the incredible work that is happening in the CSforALL network.

My role here at CSforALL allows me the opportunity to get to know and engage with members of this community and think about how we can work together strategically to strengthen and grow the CSforALL movement across the country.

Prior to joining CSforALL, I spent the last 10 years in domestic and international education working with under-resourced and disadvantaged populations. I started my education career as a middle school science teacher in Richmond, Virginia. After four years of teaching in Virginia, I moved to Philadelphia where I transitioned into the charter school world, where I was teaching middle school science and in an instructional leadership position.

During the summer of 2010, I had the opportunity to participate in a teaching exchange program in Cape Town, South Africa. That experience opened my eyes to the similarities and differences in domestic and international education. When my school year finished in 2012, I packed up and moved to South Africa where I had the opportunity to teach high school Chemistry and Physics and work on teacher development with township communities in Cape Town.

Most recently, I spent the last two and a half years as a co-founder and chief academic officer for a new network of schools based in Johannesburg, South Africa, where our goal was to provide access to high-quality education to all South African children and families.

Currently, I am in my last semester of graduate school at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. Prior to this, I received my BS from Longwood University and M.Ed from Virginia Commonwealth University.

I look forward to meeting and working with everyone in the CSforAll community. Please feel free to email me at if you have any questions about the consortium or any ideas and suggestions on increasing our engagement. I hope to see many of you at SIGCSE later this month.
